The department is headed by a Commissioner who is responsible for all teacher development programmes, including in-service teacher training, presently under the Education Standards Agency (ESA). 

Department of Teacher Education has two (2) Divisions namely:

a) Secondary Teacher Education.

 b) Primary Teacher Education.

Each division will be headed by an Assistant Commissioner.

Key outputs

  1. Appropriate policies, plans and guidelines in respect of teacher and tutor education.

  2. Adequate and well-trained teachers and tutors.

  3. Effective and efficient organization and management of teacher education institutions and training colleges.

  4. Timely advice on resource requirements for teacher and Tutor Education.
