The 20 teams from round two will be grouped in 5 groups of four in home
and away format
- 5 group winners qualify for the World Cup South Africa to participate in WC
as hosts. (Africa will have six teams in 2010WC).
UGANDA has been
handed a fair World Cup draw. The Cranes, who have been drawn to play in
Group 3 with 2010 African Nations Cup hosts Angola, Benin and Niger, however
face two daunting trips to
West Africa.
Uganda beat
Niger 3-1 in their last qualifier for the Ghana 2008 African Nations Cup but
were held to a goalless draw in the first fixture in Niamey.
Several Cranes
fans will be delighted to avoid continental heavyweights Nigeria, Cameroon and
Ivory Coast.
North African giants Egypt, Tunisia and Morocco also often give Uganda a
bloody nose.
Angola is the
seeded team in the group, but is only ranked eleventh in Africa, so Togo
(ranked 12th) is the only team weaker than Angola that Uganda could have
wished for.
South Africa
was meanwhile drawn to play
Nigeria.
